When I roll I have some things set so that it will stop on perfect CON. I'll evaluate the other stats based on perfect con and usually figure out what kind of class I can make based on what I get. If i'm rolling with a specific class in mind it's usually a big headache getting what I want.
My main frustrations would be with Wa/Dr rolling. In this instance I would be looking for perfect STR/DEX/CON modifiers. This roll usually takes at least a couple of hours. Once I get those stats I will log in and check some things to see if I have 18/01+ STR and 18 con. More often than not, even with the perfect STR/DEX/CON modifiers, i'll find that I have 17 STR or CON as a human. The difference between 17 and 18 con for a human WA/DR is around 40 hps, which is a big deal for those of us planning to romp around solo.
Granted i'll only do those things if I'm back into playing and have several other characters already rolled with mediocre stats. In that instance I would be absolutely stat hunting. If i'm just starting out again i'm more inclined to go with lower, quicker stats. Nobody likes sitting in the roller when they could be playing.
Here's how I would stop all the stat rolling without having to update the roller.
STRENGTH: Alter how the +STR modifier from items and spells is applied. Once a player achieves 18/01 of a possible 18/100, update the logic so that modifier increments by 50 per +1 STR point applied instead of the current 10. Instead of needing +13 str in gear to go from a 15 natural STR to 18/100, the player will now only need to find gear totaling +5 STR in order to MAX it out. Tone down the strength spell to only roll a 1d2 or 1d3 +STR modifier to balance out it's effectiveness.
INT/WIS: Nothing sucks more than not having enough training sessions on a dual or tri-class. Update the logic so that when GAINING levels, LEARNING FROM MISTAKES, and STUDYING skills, their current gear modifiers are taken into consideration.
If a multi-class player levels up with 14 WIS they 1 training per class. If they level up with 14 WIS +4 WIS gear modification, they get 2 points per class.
Similarly, if the class studies a new skill at a trainer with a 14 INT, they need to study 5 times to become fair. If they study at the trainer with 14 INT +4 INT modifier they only need to STUDY 3 times.
Finally, set the same logic to apply and equate during the actual usage of skills when "learning from mistakes."
-- This solution poses a problem for Druids and monks who drop gear to do their challenges. There would need to be an additional step added after the challenges added where they must interact with the trainer to accept their level.
DEX/CHR: Do not need modification. +DEX and +CHR items are already factored into skills such as bash, backstab, creature summoning abilities, and shop prices. Finding +DEX and +CHR items in the world gives the players something to work towards. If STR is updated as outlined above players won't have headaches trying to find the right gear slots for +X worth of DEX gear on top of the +13 STR they need to max that skill.
CON: Players should all want a perfect CON, especially with all of the soloing going on these days. Leave this as-is to keep the roller honest and relevant.
