I know people are usually very protective of their respective work on sites, and I can even understand this. But wouldn't it make more sense to incorporate the content of these two straight into sdmud.org, rather than using external links? That is, if their respective owners would agree to this. Besides, we'll all agree the looks of Asylum's site really aren't up to today's standard anymore

I think that both of those sites are fantastic fan-based sites. And I think fan sites are great.
But we would run into some basic differences between an official site, and a fan site. Ive run into this many many times before. In this case, I dont think the official SD mud site will include links or info on maps and items beyond the very basic level. No walkthrus, no run strings, no ID cut-n-pastes, no answers to riddles, etc etc. Those are for fan sites.

We might include basic newbie knowledge such as hometown maps, an overall map of very general links between unhidden zones, ID of newbie items? Only to a not-so-frustrating level but still leaving the explore and discover elements.

Hello all this is Macbeth, I have returned after a long stint away and am currently rebuilding the SDMUD website. Any input on what you would like to see to get it up and running, maybe start gathering mudders to it again? Just so you know the new site will not go up over night as I am in the middle of a move but I am about 30-35% done with the main overall site update and getting old content into the new format. Now I will be working on new content and a few other things and once I get it close to 65% I will see about releasing it live and updating it from there.
Also some have suggested including the content from asylum and curiosity muds webpages but this I will not do. I have used both a number of times throughout the years and think they are great, but they do not belong on the official page. This is because they are fan pages, with info about the mud that are more like spoilers, complete item listings with stats, dirs and maps all over the place. They are their own unique websites, with their own way of doing things and people who like to visit and contribute content to them, and I am all for that. Links will be posted to the fan pages though so people can find them easy enough.
There will be general help pages though and area maps to give you an idea of where you can find stuff or lore on items but no actual stats. I will be doing a number of sections both from the old site as well as some new ones. If anyone would like to help contribute content for pages to be filled with then please let me know and we can always do something.
You can reach me here or at my MUD and D&D related email dndcatgod@gmail.com

I started working on a few maps to make it easier for people to walk around the mud. I was going to make a few "flyer" type posters and see how people like them. I am still a few weeks out, but I will post one hopefully by next weekend. Can you maybe place an area that we can post maps or guides? ps - Did I mention my girl went to school for graphic design? Sheesh.. I could be so lucky!

I have added a maps section for Mortenheims old sd maps and was hopping to add to them. Just take into account that they shouldn't detail every step so much as a general layout similar to that of the old ones. But other than that you can make them as fancy as you would like.
There is a players guide section that is being worked on so if you would like to help develop it then let me know and we can hash out what can go into it.
If everyone wants to know what's going on with the site development I can setup a blog for updates a more info on the types of contributions I am looking for people to help with.
I am hoping to have the basic site up next week sometime but we shall see.
