2015 There is a mud that you can play. Shadowdale code, zones and fun. We can build - we have a build site. We can arena - we have immorts. We have a stable mud!
More info to come. The mud will not be lost!

Hello Shadowdale community! It's not easy to start the message, but I think I don't need to explain much the situation where Shadowdale is currently. It is down most of the time; when it is running, it is untable; when it crashes it stays down for a long time. Unfortunately, there are different reasons for it (we all are humans with our real lives, responsibilities, plans and priorities), that regular Shdowdale players cannot do anything about. On the other hand, we are all fans of good old Shadowdale and sometimes it feels just great to get back to the warm familiar virtual existence, the world of Shadowdale, the world of our youth and young spirits. So, on one hand we all want _the_ Shadowdale back, but on the other hand, we cannot bring back those good times, when it was so important to all of us, including maintainers who kept the mud up for us. There is no need to pretend and make a good face that something is going to change. The modern world is moving the way, where all good things must have alternatives. Sometimes it is good, sometimes it makes you feel sad, but it is a reality we live in. So, we have an alternative for all Shadowdale fans. We call it GNS mud - GNS Not Shadowdale. It is a fork from Shadowdale, but in reality it is mostly a copy of it at the moment. It has all the same behaviour (with a few fixed bugs, including crashbugs), all the same zones (including few fixes as well), all the same mobiles and items. There has been work going on to finish some unfinished areas (even with new special procedures). We don't offer you a complete copy of Shadowdale, not player restores, and we don't make promises that its state (behaviour (as code), content) will not change - we cannot promise neither keeping/freezing its current state nor rapid development, but we promise that the mud will be up and running most of the time. We will fix crashbugs certainly and we will also fix minor bugs that bother us frequently. But no sure plan about new features and lesser bugs or bugs that require reworking half of the code base. We offer you a friendly environment of _the_ Shadowdale. You can always reach us by mudmail, forum etc. No problems or questions will remain unanswered. Our address is: gnsmud.org 8989. gnsmud.org/forum/Everyone is welcome! P.S. One thing I _do_ have plan on - sharing all of the GNS mud (source code and content) on the Internet. For now it's not in good enough shape (I would feel ashamed to answer all questions about compiling it for example, as compilation generates thousands of warnings - I'm working on eliminating them) to share publicly, but I will respond to private requests.
